Show Educational Council Met June 6 t The Pleasant Grove Educational Advisory Council met June 6, and discussed several subjects of interest, and made plans for the coming year. There are two major problems being worked on by the council at present. The first is the Foul Language problem, and a committee was formed to work on this. Committee members are Don Crump, John Gourley, Judy Tur-nbow, Tur-nbow, Mack Ostergaard, Bert Lin-dstrom, Lin-dstrom, Ruth Yashko, and additional committee members will be chosen from the local governments, Geneva Steel Co., stake presidents, and local PTA representatives as well as other school principals in the area. The council plans a full effort campaign, which as of this date has been going on for almost a month, and they also plan to make this a Utah Valley effort if they can. The other major problem is that of Quality of Education in our schools. The committee feels that a study should be made on what we as a ( community wants in education. They j realize that there are many differences differen-ces of opinion and that everyone's opinion should be expressed. A committee on Quality Education will be formed later, with the possibility that principals review study courses and staff. Principal John Gourley stated that the high school has already started star-ted an effort for the upgrading of the quality of education. Other items discussed was bus safety, and Mike Ferre' was appointed appoin-ted as chairman of a committee to work on this problem. Attendance at council meeting was also reviewed and the bylaws read, which state "If any representative represen-tative of any group has two consecutive con-secutive unexcused absences from council meetings, the group will be approached to send another representative." represen-tative." No meeting of the council was held in July, and the next meeting was set for August 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Jr. High School. |
