The queen contest last Saturday evening was chair-mane- d this year by Dixie Beck and Geniel Waid and a fine staff of other ladies. They are to be congratulated on running a fine show and the girls also should be given credit for putting on a delightful evening for the public. It is too bad that only six of the fourteen girls can be chosen to represent Pleasant Grove. They all could be selected and would prove worthy representatives for our city. Mary Ann Johnson, daughter of Hazel Johnson and C. Arthur Johnson, was selected by the judges last Saturday evening as Strawberry Days Queen of 1977. Mary Ann charmed the judges with her talent, doing a dance number. Chosen as first attendant was Michelle Bickerton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bickerton. There were only four citizens present to give their opinions on this matter. It was noted that the com-pany is negotiating with Orem for a franchise to serve the community and would like to include the cities in the north end of the county also. A proposed ordinance to allow the company to do business in Pleasant Grove was reviewed. The ordinance provides that the service be optional for local citizens and that joint use of telephone poles and underground cable lines be required to prevent installation of additional poles. This request will be further investigated by the city council. Crossing Guard Mayor Cornell Haynie read a letter from the principal of the Grovecrest School requesting that the city again station a crossing guard on 100 East Street near the elementary School. This mat-ter was referred to Coun-cilman Frank Mills and the public safety committee for a decision. The extent of the responsibility of the school district in this matter was also discussed. Councilman Mills reported on the cleanup at the rodeo grounds which is underway in preparation for its use this summer and the repairs that are being made to the facilities. He reported the bleachers are being painted and the buildings have been repaired. Special Improvements Dan Harrison and a Mr. Wells who reside on 500 South, east of Loader Avenue, met with the council to request that their street be considered for a special im-provement district so that the street improvements can be placed in their street. The council noted that several areas are being considered for special improvement districts and that this street is in-cluded in the list. The need to have a large project in order to create a marketable bond and to reduce administrative costs was, noted. The council agreed to hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 3 Continued on page 7' South Part of City to Have Cleanup Day Saturday, Let's Get Busy How Mr. Robinson recognizes the efforts that have been made so far, and if everyone does their part at this cam paign, by May 1 our city should be more presentable and personal pride an in-dividual lifestyle.
