Mark Bezzant. Take Third . . . Forensic Students Do Well in State Meet, Get 74 Points j Call it exciting. Call it disap pointing. Call it victory. But for sure call it the Utah State 3 A Forensics Tournament. It was here that 20 students did I a superb job in capturing the state's third place honors with 74 points. ! As one might expect, such collective honor was ; preceeded by a multitude of " individual achievements. At the end of Friday's competition, com-petition, Virginia Fulton, Julie Morton, David Walser, i Julie Allen and Scott Walker had qualified for Saturday's semifinal round. Becky Marcyes Mar-cyes and Annette Wall had missed the cut by just one point. The debators and legislative forum contestants had yet to finish the critical preliminaries Saturday morning. mor-ning. After Friday's events the competition was too close to call. One observer described it as a four-way tie for the first fir-st place trophy. Pleasant Grove was one of the four. Of the five who qualified for the semifinal rounds, Virginia Fulton emerged to Saturday afternoon's final round and was recognized as the state's third best im-promptuer im-promptuer in 1977. Based on other ratings Julie Allen ranked seventh or eighth in Ortory. Julie Morton eleventh eleven-th in Women's Extemporaneous Extem-poraneous speaking. Scott Walker and David Walser received seventh and eighth respectively ikn Men's extemporaneous ex-temporaneous speaking. In legislative forum Keith Wesly was ranked third in the senate while Mark Mat-thia Mat-thia and Greg Yashko received seventh and tenth in the House of Representatives. Represen-tatives. Jeff Abbott who went as an alternated brought home the one point which gave the Vikings that one important point. In debate Tammy Ellis and Jeff Winters qualified for the quarterfinal round only to lose the coin toss and ultimately the debate to Davis High's number one team Mark Bonham and Von Keetch who lacked one win to break the elimination rounds, however, beat a team from Bingham who went into the semifnals. As the statistics below indicate in-dicate the Viking performance perform-ance was dominated with superiors and excellents. Such adjectives represent hundreds of hours of research, re-search, study and practice and a degree of excellence not common in today's world. The achievement is a compliment com-pliment to some very fine students and a great community. com-munity.
