Show Last Drag Race Meet of Season Held Last Saturday, Weather is Chilly was running high as first one then the other won a heat. With one win each they tied the third time running. The winning heat was unbelievable un-believable as Steve Walker came across the finish line ahead of Gene Jenson. Steve Walker picked up two $25.00 gift certificate from F.G. Ferre and Sons of Provo for his win in the Super Modified class and the featured race with the Dune Buggy. Many thanks to everyone who participated in anyway to make these races a success, suc-cess, is expressed by John Frampton and his wife June. We're glad we were able to help these drivers to let off steam in a constructive or harmless sort of way. The last drag race of the season was a big success, though the weather was chilly the enthusiasm of the crowd was enough to keep you warm. Another one of many displays of good sportsmanship sportsman-ship was exhibited in the Jeep class Saturday. When a Bronco lost his front wheel drive. His competitor twisted out his front hubs, leaving both outfits in 2 wheel drive. Scott Paramore crossed the line just ahead of Don Parker for the win and trophy. Persistance really paid off for Blaine Howcroff in the Blazer class this week. A regular competitor, and a swell guy he came out on top with the win and trophy in the Blazer class. A second place trophy was given to Doug Carlton in his Ram Charger. The winner in the Vi ton Stock pickup class was Creed Crosby in his beautiful blue&white 1974 Chevy. Kevin Hoffman followed for second place. While Wayne Hansen was out of town to a funeral, his truck was flying down the drag strip. Dave Roylance followed Wayne's lead by putting the truck in 'D' for Drag and taking the trophy in the 3A ton class. Jeff showed strong competition in stock Chevrolet but had to settle for second place. Steve Walker and his big black truck was back again this week. It was Gurney and his Dodge against Walker and his Chev. The dust flew and the crowd roared as the pedal was punched and away they flew. It took three tries for Walker to eliminate Kent Gurney to take home the win and trophy. With 14 vehicles competing the Super Modified class was a real challenge. Blazers, '2 tons, tons and Jeeps were all in there trying. Beautiful machinery and much driving skill was a sight to see. Steve Walker took his second win ofthe day with Bryan Cook, coming in second. Eight outstanding Dune Buggies showed up to compete com-pete in this class. Seven were powered by Volkswagon, one by Corvair. Kim Olsen and his beautiful green Volkswagon powered Buggy with big sand paddle tires left Dean Larsen way behind as he crossed the line for the win and trophy. Dean won the second place trophy. The featured race between the fastest truck and fastest Dune Buggy was really something to see. 4,000 lbs. of truck run against 1200 lbs. of Dune Buggy. Excitement |
