Show Letter Answers Citizen Reav Neither of the major parties has made written response to "Citizen Reay" so I, although not a candidate for public office, of-fice, feel that I must do so. His recent article which acknowledges support for the "initiative petitions" caused' me great concern. While I am against the passage of two of these petitions, "Recall" and "Budgetary Ceiling," my special concern is the effect the budget ceiling would have on the aged of the community. com-munity. Most older people on fixed incomes cannot afford the necessary services now being . provided through funds made available by the federal government and administered t by the state, county and local governments. Programs such as food service (meals on wheels), nursing home and in-home in-home health care, RSVP, legal services and all of the benefits found in the Social Security program and other agencies. It is one thing to propose a change and another to continue con-tinue service to the people of this nation who cannot provide for themselves. It is inconsiderate to mislead older people as Citizen Reay is doing. They cannot pay the I increased taxes that will m result if his proposals are adopted. Many senior citizens especially widows, are living on slightly over $100 a month Social Security. How does he propose to assist them? When he uses his so called "analogy" to explain his position to adult people, it is obv ious that his concern is not the welfare of the people, but rather to insist that he is right, and that all those who do not believe as he does, are wrong. His contention that the American Party is the sole protector of our constitution is belied by their forming a separate political party, which places them in the same position as all political parties. No one is in favor of unnecessary government spending but you do not improve im-prove the situation by paralyzing the government. This would be playing right into the hands of the Communists. Com-munists. I respectfully urge the senior citizens of the area to join me and vote NO on the budget ceiling petition. S. I. LESTER, .
