Show THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1976 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY. SEPTEMBER 2. 1976 SPORTS REVIEW Orem Drubs Vikings 27-- 0 Last Friday by Jack Hill Orem High's Tigers turned a first minute fumble recovery into a quick score, took con-trol of the game and soundly trounced visiting Pleasant Grove 27-0- . An opening game kickoff fumble recovery put Orem on the Viking 20 yard line. Orem's first play, a "throw back" to QB Ken Carlson, was good for a 20 yard touchdown. Carlson pitched to his tailback who headed around the right end only to pull up and "throw back" left to the wide open Carlson. The point after was good, giving the Tigers a 7-- 0 lead with just 42 seconds gone in the game Pleasant Grove was forced to punt and with 4:54 to play in the first quarter, Carlson hit split end Randy Peck with a "strike" and a 40 yard score. A trapped punter put P.G. inside Orem's 20 but four plays lost 10 yards to kill the Vikings only real first half threat. Two minutes into the final period, Carlson again hit Peck. This time the pass covered nine yards for the T.D. The point after boosted the Tiger total to 20. Chad Robbins added the final score on a one-yar- d plunge for Orem. Orem successfully protec-ted their passer, while P.G. did not. That was the game. P.G. travels to Westminster College 17th South and 13th East in Salt Lake City tomorrow to play Judge Memorial. Game time is 3:30 p.m. Geneva Recreation Sets Fun Day at Lagoon Sept. 25 Fun for the entire Geneva Recreation Association family is planned at Lagoon on Saturday, September 25, reported Bob Brooks chair-man of the event. Carolyn's Trying ... Gurney Places Second in Main Event in Last Saturday Races This week we would like to comment on the only woman driver in competition at Roudabout Raceway, Carolyn Gurney. She may not win many races but each week whe is right in there, giving as good as she gets. She makes racing a good clean game. She js a very conscientious driver, and very much respected by all the other drivers. In the Stock class the bumps and crashes come often. Carolyn has taken and given her share since the first of the season. Caroly has only missed a couple of events since the first of the season and has helped out on all the work projects as well. Persistance pays off and Saturday she placed second in the Main event. Earlier in the year she won a heat race. The trophy dash winners were Melvin Radmall, Ron Gurdney, and Robert Newman. In the slow heat of the Super Stock class Marv Flatt was back in competition and really did some outstanding driving but Grant Leonard proved to great a challenge and he took the victory lap. The fast heat was a wild one. Marty West taking the wheel in his Dad's car show real potential. Mike Richins spun in front of the pack and drove into West putting him out with a flat tire. Mel Radmall plays a cautious game and took the win. Ivan Luke too the win the last lap of the slow Stock heat race and Gordon Wright fought all the way into the lead of the fast Stock heat. The Super Stock main proved to be the wildest event of the day with Grant Leonard taking an early lead. Danny Houston was not be outdone and really did a job on the troops as he pulled the lead and took the checkered flag. The Modified Main event was won by Craig Chynoweth after some real tricky driving. The Slow Stock main was a battle of wits as Greg Smigh in his Cadillac worked his way thru to 2nd place then lost it then regained it. Meanwhile Greg Miller took the win with a sizeable lead. Ray Chatwin went over the end of the track on turn four and Robert Newman did his usual thing as he drove into the lead. The Old Man's Race was a fun event for all those over forty who were willing to admit it. Pete Campbell who hag been doing a grat job announcsing came down off the judges stand to race. Graig's dad, Don Chynoweth entered as did Kent Roundy. The winner was Kent Roundy. Bicycle competitors were awed as Bob Carlisle showed them how to really do a wheelie. Champion supreme of the Wheelies, he has rideri 5 miles in this position he holds the world record in this field, with 5.1 miles accomplished. Our bicycle winners this week were, Brent Bilbert, Frank Powell, Chad Nielson, Jimmie Southam, Troy Davis, and Kevin Brown. Winner of the Wheelie contest was Kevin Brown. "I didn't come to be told I'm burning the candle at both ends," said the patient to his doctor. "I came for more wax." City Ordinance Annexes Some Property complished by this ordinance.
