Chief Says to Be Careful on Holiday Trips There's a lot more to plan-ning a Christmas trip than simply loading your car and starting out. According to Pleasant Grove Chief of Police, Michael Ferre and the Inter-national Association of Chiefs of Police, the key word for a successful trip is "ready." Planning ready means a sensible schedule to avoid peak traffic periods and to pace yourself so that you don't have to drive too long at any one stretch. Plan rest stops and be flexible if the weather turns ugly. Driver ready means a rested, alert driver. Share the driving chore if possible. Know your route and any special hazards along the way that might be aggravated by bad weather. Car ready means a vehicle that has had every item of safety equipment thoroughly checked by a competent mechanic before the trip-brake-lights, tires, defroster, windshield wipers and washer, battery and exhaust system. The safety gear in your trunk is also im-portantbooster cables, a shovel, a tow chain, a window scraper brush, traction mats, sand or rock salt, emergency lighting equipment, and rein-forced tire chains for severe snow and ice conditions that may be encountered. Another good idea-- a roll of ' paper towels comes in handy to wipe lights and glass. As a final tip, Chief Ferre has this final reminder;"For the sake of a good Christmas, check weather and road reports before starting out and along the way. The weather bureau, police or local motor club can usually give you up to the minute in-formation. Driving in the face of severe storm con-ditions could invite an ex-perience for which you might find it hard to be thankful!" Utah tourism. What's it to you? Tourism is more important to Utah than it is to California. Tourism is more important totzSour overall economy than it is to California. States vary in population, industry diversification, and overall economics, so the impact of tourism within states also varies greatly For example, tourism expenditures in California nearly $ 1 are less important to that state's economy than in Utah, where expenditures reach only . California has more people, personal wealth, industry and a much larger overall economy. Utah ranks among the top 12 states in depending on tourist dollars to aid our economy. This year, tell the visitors you meet about everything Utah has to offer. Invite them to stay an extra day.
