Students found him just another boy a famous boy though. Johnny Whitaker Visits PGHS Johnny Whitaker, star of television and movies, made a surprise visit to a senior English class at P.G.H.S. Wed. morning. Johnny made the visit at the request of Mrs. Janice Randall, English teacher at the school. The young performer answered questions posed by the class, read an excerpt from Huckleberry Finn and sang a number from Cabaret. In Utah for a vacation before his school begins next week, Johnny brought his parents, brother and two sisters to the high school with him. At the suggestion of Mrs. Randall, Johnny recited a few scenes from Huckleberry Finn which he learned for his speech club in high school. Johnny, who is 15 years old sang a Jewish song from Cabaret, which he performed when his high school presented the play, Cabaret. He and his brother and sisters also sang for the class. Since the class has been studying Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, Johnny detailed how they made the musical of Tom Sawyer in which he starred in in 1972. He described how the producers tried to stay close to the original story as written by Mark Twain but did retain some dramatic license to adopt some scenes. The Whitaker family concluded con-cluded their visit to the P.G.H.S. with a tour of the school. Mr. Whitaker is a H.S. shop teacher. Johnny stressed to the students his desire for a good education because his line of work in T.V. and movies is not always reliable. |
