Various views were expressed ;ind it was decided Ihiil ;i vole on this m;itter will !)( lakon ;il the next council Hireling. ;u;nlin Hall local resident met with Ihe council to request the annexation of approximately ap-proximately 10 acres of land located on the northeast boundary ol the city. The majority ol the council members were in favor of this annexation but suggested to Mr. Hall that he present this request to the planning commission com-mission al their Thursday meet inn s(1 lnut lriL'y can present a recommendation on this request to the council. Dixie Heck and Lucille llillman members of the shade Iree commission were present at Ihe meeting lo discuss various matters of business relating to this committee. Mrs. Beck asked that she be provided a written description of the duties of the committee so that she might better ki low the activities and responsibilities respon-sibilities of this group. These ladies reviewed the state act providing for preserving of Heritage Trees. She reported that Ihe committee has been active in selecting heritage trees and so far lound thirty-three thirty-three trees in the city which qualify .The committee will encourage all residents of the city to plant one tree and to provide a marker lor these trees to provide information as to type, date planted and by whom planted. Mrs. Beck stated that the committee will encourage property owners along the south entrance of the city to plant more trees lo provide a more al tractive approach into the city. Relative to the old maple tree at Ihe library park, Mrs. Beck asked that this tree be saved if possible and recommended that a professional be called to aid in preserving this tree. Kay Lamoreaux and John Taylor were present at the meeting to request that the council reconsider its decision to deny a zone change for the proposed Farmdale Subdivision Sub-division which would be located between Highway 91 and the Geneva Road at approximately 900 Soulh. At the last council meeting the council had accepted ac-cepted the planning commission com-mission recommendation that this property not be rezoncd to residential from commercial-industrial. commercial-industrial. Mr. Lamoreaux stated that he felt that this property would never if ever be developed commercially and that the building of homes on this property would be good utilization of the ground. The council felt that this matter could be further reviewed but felt that the decision would probably not be changed. This information will he given lo Ihc planning commission. Mayor llaynio reported I licit I he Timpanogos Planning Agency will meet this Wednesday Wed-nesday al 6:00 p.m. in Alpine. Councilman Roz.anl will atlend (his meeting. Mayor llaynio invited Iho council members lo ;il lend the next council of governments meeting which will be held Thursday, September Sep-tember II in Provo. Al this meeting the mailer of the county establishing special service districts will be discussed. II was indicated by the Mayor that Ihe city employees em-ployees summer party is planned for Saturday Sept. 13. Mayor llaynie reported that he had been notified by the engineering firm doing the study for the federal government govern-ment of flood prone areas that as far as (hey were concerned Pleasant Grove has no flood problems. Councilman Frank Mills suggested that the planning commission review the need to provide that when a resident closed in a garage or carport for living area that space be provided off street for the parking that is lost by the renovation. The recent work at the main street park completed by David Roberts was discussed by the council. They voted to express their appreciation to David for his fine work. Councilman Mills also discussed the need for a pistol range in the city. He was authorized to check with various groups to determine if this facility could be constructed con-structed and maintained. Councilman E. Mark Bezzant reported that he will be meeting with the property owners of the downtown area on Thursday at 6 p.m. to discuss the downtown development study and to obtain recommendations from this group. A committee will then be selected to further investigate the plan for improvement im-provement in the downtown area of the city. Councilman Bezzant stated that there are two vacancies on the planning commission and asked the council members for names of possible candidates to serve on this board. A brief discussion of the community progress program was lead by Councilman Bezzant. 11 e indicated in-dicated that surveys of community com-munity needs are being planned and sub-committees are being formed. The council voted to support this program and provide whatever assistance is needed by this group. Councilman John Huntsman stated that because of recent vandalism at the restrooms in the main street park that it has become necessary to lock these facilities It was indicated that any group wishing to use the park can make arrangements for a key to the restrooms by contacting the parks superintendent. Councilman Neil Fugal reported that he had reviewed the cost figures presented by Vantage Corporation for the sewer line run to the Blackhawk Subdivision and that a cost per foot had been determined. He recommended that this cost be recorded on the city books and that whenever anyone hooks to this line that person pay the front foot costs of installing this line. The council authorized the exchanging of deeds in order to obtain the correct description for the roadway at 600 South between 300 and 500 East. |
