Show Utah County Is Bubbling, Let's Make It Liveable by Mary West Utah County seems to be in a bubbling stale thses days. When one travels through Orem we are especially aware of change. Change is good in some respects, but sometimes growth can get oul of hand. I would hope that in all the growth and expansion that we would not lose our identity as a community. We are fortunate to have an identity, to know each other when we pass on the street. Living in Pleasant drove gives one a feeling of belonging. Several months ago 1 was talking to good friends who live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They wanted to know how big my home town was and w hy I liked living there. I readily proclaimed the joys of living here and told them that we have simplicity in comparison u ith the hubbub of large metro politan areas. My friends live in an apartment apart-ment and travel extensively since he is an engineer for a large motor manufacturer. His wife commented on her feelings. She said that she feels so insignificant. They don't know their neighbors and although they do have friends its through their work. She felt that they have no identity and had no tie with the city. W hen listening to politicians asking lor support in a city such as Salt Lake it comes to mind that it would surely be difficult to vote in a large city. Here in Pleasant Grove we are more apt to know the candidates. It makes voting a little easier. Mr. average citizen is significant, he has opportunities op-portunities to participate in civic and church projects. During meetings of the Planning Commission it is often stressed that we want to remain Pleasant Grove, we want lo maintain an identity and not just ebb into another city limit. There has been much talk about downtown growth but I am sure that we would all like to maintain our image, and our identity. Pleasant Grove is a good place to come home to, don't you think? |
