Show Roundabout Races Back on Until Aug. 31, at Least Reversing their decision as noted in the article below, the County Commission will let the Roundabout Track stay open to Aug. 31, according to John Frampton, local police officer, who has been instrumental in running the races. Officer Frampton said there would be races this Saturday, Aug. 17 beginning at 4:30 p.m. and admission is free to the public. Races ill be for motorcycles, motor-cycles, stock cars and tri-wheel-er racers. Trophies will be given giv-en to winners in classes. Former Action Roundabout Raceway on the canyon road in Manila was closed clo-sed following Saturday's races on orders of the County Commission, Com-mission, Mayor Cornell Haynie announced this week. The racetrack located north of Pleasant Grove, just before the Am. Fork Canyon intersection inter-section is partly on county property, which is not zoned for racetracks. The city has sponsored races on the site during dur-ing the summer to give youngsters young-sters a place to race their stock (Continued on page 2) Roundabout Races (Continued from page 1) cars and motorcycles. According to Mayor Haynie a delegation of citizens from Manila met with commission members on Friday and asked for a closing of the track. Their complaints included lack of restroom facilities, dust, crowded crowd-ed parking on sides of roadway, road-way, and fire hazards caused by spectators who sit on the east side of the road. The mayor said he felt the mayors of the surrounding communities and the county commission were behind the project. The answer to the problem seems to be to find another location for the track, he said. |
