Show Boy Scouts Are Recognized in Bicentennial The Boy Scouts of America have been officially recognized as part of the national Bicentennial Bicen-tennial program for their four-year four-year program to involve some 6.5 million youth and adult members in activites leading to the commemoraton of America's Amer-ica's 200 birthday. The ARBC recognized that through Scouting's Bicentennial Bicenten-nial Program, youth and adults will find a meaningful relationship relation-ship between their active parti-cipaton parti-cipaton in Scouting and the spirit of the Bicentennial. Scouting identified this rela- tionship through existing and newly-created programs from 1973-77. These programs directly direc-tly contribute to the development develop-ment of youth, forge an increased incre-ased awareness of family relationship, rela-tionship, and enhance awareness aware-ness and support of projects affecting af-fecting community, national and international progress. Special task forces of adult volunteers, youth members, and BSA professionals on the national nat-ional level have been working for over two years to develop a Bicentennial observance program pro-gram that would be meaningful to members of the Boy Scouts of America. These task forces have integrated BSA monthly program themes, national activities, act-ivities, and suggestions for lo- cal programs into a package ' that will immediately involve ' all SBA members into the spirit spir-it of the Bicentennial. The BSA "national office personnel maintain main-tain a close relationship with members of the Bicentennial (Continued on last paee) Boy Scouts (Continued from page 1) Commision and staff to provide for the maximum use of available avail-able resources and program suggestions. Local councils are encouraged to avail themselves of state and local resources. The BSA Bicentennial program pro-gram covers the entire Bicentennial Bicen-tennial Era of 1973-77. Each year of the Bicentennial Era has been identified with a program pro-gram emphasis. Each program pro-gram emphasis will carry a national theme and program direction that contributes to the character development, citizenship training, and physical physi-cal and mental fitness of youth. A recogniton program has been developed to recognize participating partici-pating members in Bicentennial Bicenten-nial Programs. Scouting also is encouraging BSA units, councils, coun-cils, and the national organization organiza-tion to recognize non-Scouting groups for their service to the advancement of human welfare The national office of the Boy Scouts of America has developed de-veloped a comprehensive communications com-munications program that is detailed, through 1977. An important im-portant ingredient in this program pro-gram is the continuing features in the BSA magazines. Boys' Life, Scouting, and Exploring magazines have and will continue con-tinue to bring program highlights high-lights and special Bicentennial related features to the attention atten-tion of Scouting membership. The national office of the BSA will prepare special scripts and outlines for local council use in preparing for Scout shows and camporees. The development de-velopment materials will be especially es-pecially written to include the current Bicentennial Program emphasis. |
