He reported re-ported that the sewer construction constru-ction along highway 91 is advancing ad-vancing satisfactory and there is now only about 400 feet to run before the project will be completed. Relative to repairs needed on the recently paved 200 south street it was felt that the contractor be asked to make the repairs in the early spring. Concerning the difficulty diffi-culty of snow removal on dead end streets Mr. Steele reported that is it felt by the street department de-partment that these areas cannot can-not be serviced. The council felt that where it is not possible pos-sible to turn around with the snow removal equipment that these areas not be serviced by the street crews. The matter of periodic in-inspection in-inspection of water hydrants at With Mayor Jack Cook presiding pre-siding and all members of the city council present except Councilman West, who was excused because of work the city council held their f jrst regular reg-ular meeting of the month Tuesday evening. Garland Mayne, disposal plant operator, was present at the meeting to discuss with the council the need of purchasing equipment and materials in order to take certain tests as required by the state division of water quality standards. A discussion of the required supplies sup-plies followed with estimates of costs presented by Mr. Mayne. May-ne. The council authorized the purchase of this needed euip-ment euip-ment and supplies. Art Steele, city superintendent, superintend-ent, gave a report of the least one a year. The council felt that this should be reviewed review-ed with the fire department and a program of inspection worked out. Dave Greenwood, representing represent-ing the Utah State Highway Department De-partment met with the council to discuss various programs' of the federal and state highway departments. He explained the Urban Road System and suggested sug-gested to the council that the city engineer submit a list to roads to the local council of governments which the council feels should be considered for improvement. Mr. Greenwood also presented forms and information infor-mation to be used in requesting Class "C" road allocations from the state. He recommended that these forms be completed and submitted as soon as possible. pos-sible. David Stanton of the department depart-ment of community affairs met with the council to discuss the housing program for the needy under the federal housing act. Because of the relatively small amount allocated to each city ($15,087 to Pleasant Grove) the cities are allowing the county housing authority to handle the dispersing of the money in those areas where it is most needed in each city. The council coun-cil felt that they should use the county administration and pass a resolution to allow the county agency to administer funds of Pleasant Grove but that the city maintain control of how the funds will be spent in Pleasant Grove. Rodger Dudley and Boyd Wathen joined the meeting to discuss the proposed sewer line from the Blackhawk Subdivision Subdivis-ion to the present existing sewer sew-er line on 900 South street. The council felt that an earnest attempt should be made to get this club re-established in Pleasant Grove. A letter was read which had been received from the local industrial promotion board indicating in-dicating that a prospective industry in-dustry had be brought to Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove to look at possible plant sites for the industry. The letter indicated that the prospect pros-pect seemed interested in the property recently acquired by the busines development group. Councilman Haynie reported on the meeting he had held with the governor. He stated that the governor has proposed to adjust the present retirement program for increases in the cost of living. An explanation of what this would involve followed fol-lowed and the feelings of the council were that they were in agreement with the proposal. The council discussed again the possibility of constructing a swimming pool in conjunction with the new Junior High School. It was reported that the cost for such a building would be over $400,000.00. The council felt that at this time th city would not be able to get involved in the construction of a swimming pool. ' Bruce Trego, building inpsec-tor inpsec-tor was present to review road priorities to be presented to the Utah Valley Area Transportation Trans-portation Study committee. The recently prepared priority list for Pleasnt Grove was reviewed re-viewed and the council was in agrement with what had been presented in this study. Various other matters pertaining to building problems and policies were discussed. The minutes of the planning commision & Board of Adjustments Adjust-ments were read and approved. The council approved contributing contri-buting towards the purchase of a new loud speaking system to be used within the city departments depart-ments and organizations. The Chamber of Commerce have indicated that they will be buying buy-ing a new system and have requested re-quested city participation in the cost. i |
