Scouters Banquet Held Sept. 30 With Numerous Awards Given The Annual Scouters award and honor banquet was held Sept. 30 in the Third-Sixth Ward Cultural Hall. Marvin R. Green, district commissioner, was master of ceremonies, and Robert Penrod, district chairman, chair-man, gave the address of welcome wel-come and a report on advancement advance-ment and activities. Bishop Cloyd Christiansen of the nominations committte, officiated of-ficiated in the ceremony of swearing in of new officers. Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the second miler awards. Andrew J. Wall, Blain Gray and Ted Young were the devoted scouters who received the coveted awards. Bishop Cloyd Christiansen read the citations and President Leon Walker and President David Da-vid Harvey made the presentations. present-ations. Joyce Phillips, a 1970 second miler, presented flowers to the ladies. Veteran awards were given to Don E. Brimley, Ted Young, Robert Williams, and Scott and Andrew Wall. George R. Fan nin, district executive, made the presentations. Training awards were presented pre-sented to Robert Penrod, Walter Walt-er Brock, and Andrew Wall, by Floyd Davis of the training committee. Floyd Loveridge, scout executive exe-cutive of the Utah National Parks Council, gave inspiring encouragement and compliments compli-ments to the Scouts and scouters scout-ers of the Timpanogos District. Executive Loveridge remarked that some of the best Scouting Scout-ing in the world is done right here in the Timpanogos District. Dis-trict. The report given by Robert Penrod showed that 292 cubbing awards were given during the past year. A total of 402 Scouting Scout-ing awards were given, 28 of them Eagle badges. 1030 merit badges were earned and presented pre-sented to scouts in the district during the year. There are 43 units and 1072 boys registered in the district. The impressive opening ceremony cere-mony was directed by Sherman Varney. |
