The council authorized sale of approximately 35,000 yards of bank run gravel from the city gravel pit to a local sand and gravel company. Relative to the garbage problem prob-lem discussed by Mr. Steele at the first of the meeting, it was felt that the use of a private concern to pick up the garbage gar-bage should be investigated. Mayor Cook stated that he will look into this possibility. Council Walter Reimschussel reported that sewer construction construc-tion is underway and that after af-ter present construction is complete com-plete there will be only three or four blocks in the city which are not serviced by the city sewer system. Councilman Green reported on the construction of the Tri-' City golf course and stated that' he will have additional information inform-ation available on this project for the next regular council meeting. The council discussed the additional ad-ditional recreation facilities required re-quired by the growth in the city More baseball and Softball diamonds dia-monds are required and unless financial assistance can be obtained ob-tained for construction it will mean restricted use of the present pres-ent ball diamonds. Council Michael Vicchrilli reported that a public meeting had been held for the rezoning of property located on Highway 91 in the south part of the city. He reported that no one had attended the meeting to protest the change and felt that this zoning change should be made to provide commescial use of the property. Councilman Cornell Haynie reported that Alex Hunt had been employed by the city police pol-ice department as of Oct. 1. He stated that the hiring of an additional policeman was made possible through use of federal funds made available through " the emergency employment act Various matters of city business busi-ness were discussed by the city council at their regular meeting meet-ing held Monday evening. A-mong A-mong the items discussed were the following: Art Steele, recently appointed appoint-ed general superintendent met with the council and reviewed with the council members the activities of the various city departments. He stated that because of the numerous breakdowns break-downs of the garbage truck, and the increased amount of garbage to be picked up, that the city should think about purchasing a larger truck or making other arrangements to handle the increased garbage load. The council thanked Mr. Steele for coming to the meet-requested meet-requested that he meet with ing and giving his report, and the council the first meeting of each month. A. B. Gibson, president of the local Business Development Corporation, and city representative represen-tative to the Utah Valley Industrial Indus-trial Development Association, met with the council to invite the Mayor and council members mem-bers to the next regular UVIDA meeting to be held Oct. 6. He felt that the members of the council would be interested in meeting with this group and hearing of the activities of this association in bringing industries indus-tries into Utah County. Mr. and Mrs. Don Liston attended at-tended the meeting to ask the council if it would be possible for them to build on the property prop-erty they recently purchased in the eastern part of town. They stated that when they bought the property they were told there would be no problems in obtaining entrance into the property. Since this time they have discovered there are no public roads into this area. The council told the Listons that a building permit can only be issued if there can be free access to the property and if the home can be hooked onto the city sewer system. They recommended that they contact other property owners in this area to see if they would be interested in developing their property at this time, and establishing es-tablishing roads in the area. Bill Told met with the council coun-cil to request that he be allowed allow-ed to have animals on his property prop-erty which is located within the city limits. He felt that the piece of property which he owns is large enough that it does not create a problem if he has several head of sheep on the land. He suggested that the council review their policy of not allowing animals within the city limits and allow a certain number of animals on property |
