"N ' ':- - - " r r ! : :7 I i I L iui Bin M"i thi f iff' &m Cloyd Atwood In Moab bishopric Cloyd Atwood Counselor in Moab Bishopric Cloyd Atwood, former resi-dent of Lindon, who is now teaching Seminary in Moab, Utah, and is also the principal of the seminary, has been ap-pointed and sustained as a counselor in the Moab First Ward bishopric, according to word received here. Cloyd is married to the for-mer Marda Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Walker of Pleasant Grove and Cloyd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pres-ton Atwood of Lindon. The Atwoods, with their little daughter, Angela, have resid-ed in Moab for the past year. Barlow, Utah Safety Council's, vice president for traffic com-mented today in discussing ex-pected traffic conditions during the approaching Thanksgiving holiday. "You'll run into some of the 'Highway-Cashew- s' on the In-terstate as well as on the city streets," he said. "They aren't really full-tim- e driving freaks, or nuts, but people of all ages who forget simple safe driving and car maintenance rules and get themselves and others in trouble." "Traffic volumes and acci-dents have increased, but there is no need to get 'uptight' about your trip if you take a few simple steps to get ready," he said. Following are recomenda-tion- s Barlow suggests you fol-low to keep free from highway trouble this holiday. Have a checkup, drive care-fully and courteously, and don't have that last 'one for the road" before you drive. Utah Courts Are Busy with Game Law Violators Utah courts were kept busy during the month of October handling violations of fishing and hunting laws. A report re-leased from the Utah Division of Fish and game indicates that a total of 224 cases involving fish and game violations were handled in the month of Octo-ber. In 1969 360 cases were handled during October. . Only 38 of the cases handled during October, 1970 involved .juvenile violators. These cases were handled by the juvenile courts. Violations ranged from fish-ing without a license to failure to tag game as several seasons were open during the month. An increasing number of ar-rests for littering are showing up on the arrest reports. Globe, Mason City, Iowa Funeral Rites Held Monday for Lindon Woman Funeral services for Clara Mae Ash Gillman, 84, London, who died at her home last Thursday, were held Monday, Nov. 23, in the Lindon Ward Chapel. Bishop Douglas E. Nielsen was in charge. Speakers who told of the long and worthwhile life of Mrs. Gillman were Stanley B. Har-ris and Joseph H. Ash. Bishop Douglas E. Nielsen also gave remarks of consolation. A vocal solo was rendered by Wilma Taylor, "In the Gar-den," accompanied by Floris R. Olsen and Patricia Seely and Beverly Christeson sang "I'll Take My Vacation in Heaven" accompanied by Michelle Seely Family prayer was led by Donald B. Ash and invocation given by Alroy Gillman. Ralph Bird pronounced the benedic-tion. Rena Friant played pre-lude and postlude music. Dedication of the grave in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery was given by Harold S. Walker. Pallbearers were Rex Gard-ner, Ralph Bird, Clarence Tay-lor, William Fackrell, Dean Ash, Jess Ash and Garth Gard-ner. Flowers were arranged and cared for by the Lindon Third Ward Relief Society. Mrs. Gillman was born Oct.. 22, 1886, in Lindon, a daughter of George R. and Elizabeth Cullimore Ash. She married Luther McCandless on Feb; 14, 1906. He later died. She then married James H." Gillman on Oct. 28, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He also died. She was an active member of the LDS Church in Lindon. Survivors include one daugh-ter Mrs. Garth (Fern) Gard-ner, Ogden; two grandchildren, seven 3 brothers and three sisters, Ar-nold Ash, Provo; Eldon Ash, Springville; Cecil Ash and Mrs. Norman (Elva) Peterson, Lehi; Mrs. Maude Nelson and Mrs. William (Thelma) Fackrell, of Salt Lake City; stepchildren, Kenneth R. Gillman, Lindon; Mrs. Richard (Viola) Walker, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Rhoda Walker, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Theron (Minetta) Jorgenson, Las Vegas, Nevada. ' i r, i v y " . f 7 ; I ' i ' I MRS. BETTY WUNSCHEL Headstart Coordinator Coordinator for Headstart Activity Named for County A tremendous challenge ! That's how Mrs. Betty Wunsch-e- l described her new duties as Coordinator for Career Devel-opment in Utah County's Head-sta- rt programs. Mrs. Wunschel of Orem, was selected to be Coordinator in October. She will direct the Career Development Program for seven Headstart Child De-velopment center throughout Utah County. Money for the program is received from the Department of Health, Educa-tion and Welfare. Utah County Community Action Agency, re-cipient of the $33,850 grant has delegated the program's direction of Nebo School District. The program is designed to give special training to disad-vantaged employees in the Headstart programs. disadvantaged em-ployees in positions such as teacher aides, social service aides, etc., will participate in special training course to de-velop their job skills. Object-ives of the training program is to qualify the disadvantaged for employ-ment in the regular school sys-tem, or other community agen-cies. Also a part of the pro-gram are courses for upgrad-ing skills for several permen-en- t employees in the Headstart programs.
