Show Vikings Win Over Cyprus in Wrestling Match Last Week The Viking Varsity Wrestling Wrest-ling team defeated Cyprus last Friday night in the Pleasant Grove gym. The final score was 38 to 12 with Pleasant Grove winning 8 out of the 12 matches, match-es, 7 of them by falls. Coach Darold Henry's wrestlers wrest-lers looked somewhat impressive impress-ive in winning so handily, and they could have a great season sea-son ahead of them. Individual Results 98 lb. Harry Doutis. 126 Mark Sanderson, P.G. won by a fall over Bob Hunt. 132 Dave Phillips, P.G., won by a fall over Gill Bowden. 138 Jon Nelson, Cyprus, dec Scott Bennett, P.G. 145 Mike Bennett, P.G. won by a fall over Rick Walker. 155 Brent Bentley, Cyprus dec. Steven Fowles, P.G. 167 Randy Fowles, P.G. won by a fall over Kerry Stanley. 185 Randy Green, P.G., won by a fall over Dave Wright. Hvywt. Garth Hardinger, P.G. won by a fall over Boyer McDonald. Jr. Varsity Matches The Jr. Varsity won their match 29 to 17, winning 7 matches mat-ches to 5 but they won 3 by falls while their opponents only were able to gain 1 fall victory. (fall) 105 Black, Cyprus over Perry Per-ry Bratt, P.G., dec. 112 Jon Bratt, P.G. over Vosnos, (dec.) 119 Richard Maxfield, P.G. over Whiley, (dec.) 126 Steele, Cyprus over Keith Roberts, P.G., dec. 132 Rodriguez, Cyprus, over Vern Goode, P.G., dec. 138 Stan Boren, P.G. over Pulham, (fall). 145 Robinson, Cyprus, over Dave Pollmann, P.G. (dec.) 155 Kordon Jorgensen, P.G. over Brothers, (fall) 167 Lee Fugal, P.G. over Byers, (dec.) 185 David Christiansen, P. G., over Gunnerson, (dec.) Hvywt. Clark Christensen, P.G. over Brinton, (fall). Cyprus also brought some more wrestlers down with them, and several exhibition matches were staged. According to the score sheet furnishd by Coach Henry, P.G. won some 20 out of 26 exhibition matches, so they must also have good back up wrestlers to the Varsity and Jr. Varsity teams. Several matches are on the slate for this week and next. Tuesday night Jordan came to Pleasant Grove, but because of the early paper, no results were available. Saturday, Nov. 28, Tooele will be here and on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Grantsville will wrestle here. Next Thursday, Thurs-day, Dec. 3, Union will visit and on Saturday, Dec. 5, P.G. will go to Bingham. |
