County Recreation VV Hold Party for Handicapped Group The Utah County Recreation will hold its Christmas party for handicapped children on Friday,, Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Eldred Center, 270 West 500 North, Provo, Utah. Santa will be at this party, according to Walter Reimschii-sel- , committeeman, with sack candy for all children or fam-ilies in attendance. A program has also been planned for this evening's entertainment, Mr. Reimschiissel stated. Clinton Evans Moves To New Job in Twin Fails, Idaho Clinton H. Evans, employed with the American Oil Com-pany, has been transferred from Spokane, Washington, to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he will be manager of the Ameri-can Oil Chemical Formulating Plant there. He and his wife, Eilene and children Gregory, Gerald, and Sonia, visited the Daryl Huish and Oscar W. Evans families during Thanksgiving. The fol-lowing week the Huishes be-came better acquainted with Sonia and the Evans family became better acquainted with Gregory and Gerald, while the parents returned to Twin Falls to establish their home there. FFA Sets Rabbit Hunt, Hold Green Hand Ceremonies The officers of the Pleasant Grove Chapter of Future Far-mers have set Dec. 27 as the date for the annual Ag Rabbit Hunt. Any boy who is enrolled in Ag Shop or Ag Science, may attend. The Chapter held its Green Hand Award ceremonies last Wednesday night. Boys who re-ceived the awards had to be regularly enrolled in a voca-tional agriculture class, recite the Creed of the Future Far-mbe- rs of America, be familiar with the purpose of the FFA and the program of work of the local chapter. After the ceremonies, the club moved into the Ag room for ice cream. There were 33 boys who received their Green Hand award. Timp Stake Relief Society Board Has Christmas Party The Timpanogos Stake Relief Society Board and husbands held a Christmas party Satur-day evening, December 6, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Malin Smith. A delicious dinner, fol-lowed by games and visiting was enjoyed in a beautiful Christmas setting. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Leon Walker, Mr., and Mrs. Malin Smith, Mr. and J. Reed Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Alton E. Ekins, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Rees, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Gillman, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Carson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cullimore, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Y. Fugal, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford C. Hales, Mr. and Mrs. Alroy Gillman, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar W. Evans. There will be no Relief Soc-iety Stake Leadership meeting until January. AAUW Monthly Meeting Held In Early December The AAUW held the Decem-ber meeting at the home of Mrs. Leroy Thorne. with Mrs. Thorne was Mrs. Ella Jackson. Margaret Hayes gave a re-port of the drug problem in Utah in connection with her subject of "Relationship of Ju-venile Delinqueny to Our Earth." Jennie Gleason gave some in-teresting reports pertaining to the population explosion. Mrs. Eugene Allred reported on the incident at Skull Valley and gave a report of the book called "Science and Survival" by Barry Commoner. Mrs. Lawrence Crease repor-ted on the Women's Legislative Council meeting, which was very interesting. Mrs. Emily Pederson has been asked to search out some places in town to display some of the works of our local artists. She and Mrs. Retta Crease at-tended the last city council meeting and reported that they are in accordance with this plan, if a suitable place can be found. In the meantime, Mrs. Pederson has arranged with some of the local business men to display some paintings for the month of December. Bank of Pleasant Grove has two paintings on display, one by Mrs. Betty Listen and one by Mrs. Mary Shoemaker. The Utah Power and Light office is displaying a painting by Mrs. Coral Hicks and Christensen's is displaying one of Mrs. Em-ily Pederssons. The AAUW expressed their gratitude to these establish-ments in helping them get this project underway. They report we have marvelous talent in our city and we should become more aware of it. Light refreshments were ser-ved at the meeting by the hos-tess to the following not already mentioned: Mrs. Jean Fugal, Mrs. Walter Reimschiissel, Mrs. Eleroy West, Mrs. Vera Wagstaff, Miss Marjorie Hold-awa- y and Mrs. Jess Monson. Harper Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Tim-panogos Stake House for Chi-ton H. Harper, 81, who died Tuesday morning in a Provo hospital of natural causes. Friends may call Thursday evening at Olpin Family Mor-tuary, 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church prior to services. Mr. Harper was bora Dec. 9, 1888 in Pleasant Grove, a son of Charles B. and Harriet Gib-bons Harper. He married Em-ma J. Hunger in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a fruit farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Grove Ward, where he was a High Priest at the time of his death. He had served in various capacities in the LDS church, including the superintendency of the Sunday School, the MIA and as group secretary of his High Priests quorum. He was a former member of the PI. Grove Riding Club. He is survived by his widow, five sons and two daughters, Gale, Charles, Boyd, Max and Darrell, all of Pleasant Grove Mrs. Arvil S. (Cora) Anderson of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Harold (Rose) Baird, Kearns. 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral Held in California for Eldon W. Hansen Eldon W. Hansen, 55, brother of Mrs. Charles (Florence) Holman of Pleasant Grove died last Sunday morning in an Altadena, California hospit-al from emphysema. He had been ill for a long time. Funeral services were held Wednesday in a Pasadena LDS Chapel. Flying down for the services were a brother and two sisters, Walter Hansen and Mrs. Erma Miller, American Fork and Mrs Oria Gray, Lehi. |
