Show Legislative Council Hears Talk on Pollution Problem Boyd C. Erickson, Senior Pollution Pol-lution Control Engineer at Geneva Gen-eva Steel, narrated slides shown by Art Holliman at the Utah County Women's Legislative Council meeting last Thursday. Mr. Erickson told of the growth of the Geneva Steel Co. and the problems encountered in air and water pollution. Mr. Erickson was introduced by Mrs. Fred V. Jackman, who is health chairman for the legislative leg-islative council. Mr. Erickson said that Geneva Gen-eva Steel is one of the cleanest in the country, for an integrated plant. The aim at Geneva, he stated is to keep pollution at a minimum and use technology as it becomes available. Geneva Gen-eva Steel wants to be a good neighbor. Mrs. Frank Jones gave state legislative report, which concerned con-cerned higher education in Utah Attorney Peter W. Billings, who is chairman of the committee on higher education, stated that a graduate degree may soon be as necessary as a college degree is now. He said that Utah leads all states in graduates gradu-ates past high school, college, vocational graduate work, which constitutes continuing education. ed-ucation. He als0 reported :hat 247 students stu-dents are attending college at Roosevelt, with the faculty from the USU being flown in three nights a week. He also reported that Utah has nine colleges per million people, not counting the BYU, and that California has only 5 colleges per million. |
