Show fI f r v t f P 1 J JI I I I I Ir r 0 4 t i ix tr GIRL SCOUTS II INDIAN On Thursday Feb 19 Junior Junior Junior Jun Jun- Girl Scout Troop No I under the leadership of Mrs Raymond Christensen and Mrs Robert Reeder invited Junior Troops 95 and Cadette Troop to share a most unusual program presented by Robert Apache McLean of Salt Lake City MR McLEAN presented a program of ten authentic Indian Indian Indian In In- dian dances in full costume and gave the history of oC each 0 dance The costumes used I were all made hand-made by Mr E and Mrs McLean and because of the detail of the beadwork I and elaborate feathered headdresses headdresses headdresses head head- dresses they sometimes take as long as five months to complete I Mr McLean who is the physical education director for all classes at Franklin Elementary School began studying Indian history and learning Indian dan dances es as a child He has learned many of the dances he performs directly from Indians on reservations reservations reser reser- and has danced with withas as many as 40 different Indian Indian Indian In In- dian Tribes He is the author of oC a book entitled American Indian Dances published b bRonald by Ronald Press of New York City r FOLLOWING the presentation presenta presenta- i tion of the dances Mr McLean conducted a question and answer answer answer ans ans- period taught the Scouts an Indian song and two Indian Indian Indian In In- dian games With his assistance assistance assist assist- ance ante the Scouts of oC Troop completed many of the requirements requirements re re- q of the Indian Lore Badge The troop has planned a field trip o 0 the Museum of Natural History at the University University University sity of Utah to complete other badge requirements Local Girl Scouts recently met with Robert Apache McLean |
