Show Spring Deer Studies Set et Spring Deer Studies Underway Conservation officers and biologists of the Division ofFish of ofFish ofFish Fish and Game in cooperation cooperation cooperation tion with and Forest Service personnel are currently currently cur cur- engaged in spring deer study activities STUDIES currently in progress progress progress ress include reading browse and pellet-group pellet transects and range rides to survey general range conditions and make trend counts The browse transect studies measure the utilization of marked browse plants during winter months Spring readings readings read read- ings are compared with fall readings to obtain percent utilization of new growth Pel Pel- let-group let counts made in the same area give biologists the amount of deer days use on the study plot Most study areas are on critical deer winter range LATER THIS TIlLS spring Fish and Game personnel will be making fawn doe-fawn counts to determine the productivity of the deer herd All data collected will be compiled and analyzed for presentation to the Big Game Board The board uses the data collected to aid them in insetting insetting insetting setting the deer hunts on the 73 deer herd units and subunits subunits subunits sub- sub units throughout the state |
