Show The Alamo puts up a fight against Kamas There's a comet by the name of Kamas streaking through the Men's Basketball League, and at the midseason juncture it shows no signs of burning out. Kamas Valley improved its season record to a perfect 5-0, and opened up a two-game lead in the city roundball competition last week with a 60-54 victory over The Alamo at the Treasure Mountain Middle School, as the league reached the halfway point in its schedule. In its game the week before, the Alamo hnd started just four players and played most of the second half with only three. Buoyed by a full lineup, The Alamo pushed Kamas to the limit in a close battle throughout the game. Kamas featured a balanced scoring attack, paced by Brian Woolstenhulme and Bill Peterson, who tallied 18 and 13 points respectively. Jim Austin led The Alamo, now 3-2 on the year, with 14 points. In other league action, the Park City Recreation Department swept past still winless Yarrow, 65-49, and upped its record to 3-2. Rick Widdison paced the winners with 19 points, while Courtland Nelson added 16 points. Ken Kester scored 20 points for Yarrow, which saw it record fall to 0-5 on the year. Behind Mike HammiU's 18 points, Texas Red's downed Cofer Chiropractic, Chiro-practic, 47-36, and pulled into a three-way tie with The Alamo and the Rec. Department for second place with a 3-2 mark. Cofer, which fell to 2-3, got 12 points from Bob Scheinblum and 10 points from Marcel Chappuis. |
