Show City Council approves purchase of new trucks New city trucks will be rolling into town now that the City Council has paved the way with a vote to approve the purchase of three vehicles totaling $106,338.28. According to Public Works Director Jerry Gibbs, the city received bids from nine dealers on a IVi-ton dump truck, a 2i-ton dump truck and a one-ton water service truck. All the vehicles are four-wheel-drive. Streater Chevrolet, a Salt Lake City dealer, returned the lowest bids on all three vehicles. The low Dids were listed as follows: $50,623.92 for the 2Vi-ton dump truck, $42,163.68 for the IMi-ton dump truck, and $13,550.73 for the one-ton truck. The vehicles, which will be fitted with snowplows and sanders, are intended to replace old vehicles which have required unreasonable amounts of servicing to keep in operation, according to Biggs. Although the 2-ton and lVfe-ton trucks were included in the city's current budget, the allocation fell $20,000 short of the low bids for the vehicles. City Manager Ar-lene Ar-lene Loble recommended to the council that funds needed to meet the bids be transferred from a $250,000 contingency fund. The one-ton water department depart-ment service truck was not in this year's city budget. Loble also suggested to the council that they increase the Water Department's budget by $13,550.73 to cover the purchase. The council included the suggestions in the approved motion to purchase the vehicles. |
