Billy Kidd will be the guest of honor when the second annual Jan's Winter Welcome is held in Deer Valley's Snow Park Lodge Oct. 14. For the benefit of those of you who weren't around last year, Jan's Winter Welcome is a fundraiser for the Park City Ski Team. This year's funds are earmarked, in part, to fund a tutor for the team, to help cover team travel expenses, and to pay the costs of bringing the JIII Western Region Junior Olympics to Park City next March, according to Jan Peterson, sponsor of the event. For the benefit of those of you who weren't around in the 1960s, Billy Kidd is an Olympic silver medal winner win-ner (1964) and two-time world champion. Kidd grew up in Stowe, Vermont, and raced internationally inter-nationally for nine years on the U.S. Ski Team. While racing full time, he was also a student at the University of Colorado in Boulder earning a B.S. in Economics in 1969. His prominence in the ski world was first established in 1964 when he won the Silver Medal in slalom at the Innsbruck, Austria, Olympics. Olym-pics. At the 1970 World Championships Cham-pionships in Val Gardena, Italy, Kidd netted his first World Championship title, and the first United States Gold Medal with a first-place first-place combined score. Two weeks later, he turned pro and won the 1970 World Professional Ski Racing Championships in Verbier, Switzerland. A year 'round Steamboat, Colorado resident, Kidd is a design consultant for Hart Skis, Salomon boots and bindings, Aerro Poles, has written two books on skiing, and has developed a line of Billy Kidd Stetson hats. Billy Kidd Racing Camps are the latest addition to the list of his business activities. Kidd is also head ski coach for the Special Olympics, and a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The second annual Jan's Winter Welcome is sche- duled to include a trade show, silent auction, a ligjit buffet with cocktails, ja fashion show, introduction bf racers and guests, a live auction, and dancing to a live band.
