I took the project to heart, On Monday, Mon-day, the corridors of the elementary school were lined with entf ies for the bus safety poster contest. ; 1 When the winners were selected, Taylor Mammen saw his hard work pay off. His highly original poster-portraying poster-portraying a school bus in a tropical jungle setting complete with swaying sway-ing palm trees and exotic animals was selected as the overall winner. Fourth-grade student Powell Har- rison's poster also received special merit recognition. "I stayed up half the night working on it," he said. -"I wanted to get it right." Also winning certificates of merit were posters drawn by Steven Umble, Um-ble, Brady Bradford, Andy Schulz, Brooks Harbertson, Summer Nelson and Daniel McClellan. "I really tried to do my best," said first-grade student McClellan with a shy smile. Since he likes to draw horses, he incorporated one into his drawing to remind other students not to "horse around" near the school buses. The award-winning posters were selected by school district special services director Mark Simmons and superintendent Tony Mitchell. |
