Show Mt. Metro Obtains Federal Grant Park City has obtained a federal grant which will partially fund the city's transportation system. Jan Sylvester, director of Mt. Metro, said the city will receive $432,240 from the federal highway fund. City officials applied for the federal monies almost . two years ago and were just recently notified the grant application had been accepted. "I'm really excited," Sylvester said. "It's been a long wait." The money will be used soley for capital improvements, she noted. Six new busses will be added to the fleet of 13, bus benches and shelters will be constructed, signs will be erected and a communication system will be installed, Sylvester said of how the money will be spent. Until now, the busline was funded by a Vi cent sales tax and by money from the city's general fundr The 80-20 match grant requires the city to pick up the $108,060 in operational expenses, which Sylvester noted would again come from sales tax revenue. Because of the .Reagan administrations's budget 'cuts, officials feared the 'grant would not be accepted. "I was hopeful we wouldn't be affected because the application had been in for almost two years," . Sylvester said. |
