Show Smoke pours from Eating Establishment's roof during Wednesday fire. Extinguishers Fail Fire Damages E.E. Kitchen A grease fire at the Eating Establishment early Wednesday Wed-nesday morning caused significant sig-nificant damage to the restaurant's kitchen and sent volunteer firemen and equipment equip-ment racing to the Main St. area. Stewart Brown was preparing prepar-ing for the early morning breakfast trade when a grease pot ignited on the kitchen stove around 7:45. Brown tried to douse the flames with the restaurant's extinguishers built into the kitchen ventilating system.-When system.-When he could not get the blaze completely out he called the fire dept. Fire boss Barbara Burns who was the first at the scene said the volunteers responded respon-ded very quickly arriving at around 7:55. Burns said heavy, smoke billowing out windows and doors hampered hamper-ed firefighters somewhat at first but added the flames were rapidly doused. Firefighters Fire-fighters spent another hour at the scene cleaning up and making sure the fire was completely out. Sherwin Baron, who owns the popular Main St. res-. res-. taurant, told the Record he had no damage estimates but added he hoped to be open for business again Friday. I think the firefighters did a wonderful job" he said, "they arrived quickly, got the fire right out and were extremely courteous and professional in their work." |
