Show County Briefs by Matt Madsen New Fire District Discussed The summit County Commissioners this week held a public hearing regarding a new fire district. The commissioners announced they will adopt a county ordinance to create a new fire district located in the eastern part of the county. County Clerk Reed Pace said the purpose for the additional fire district is to raise property taxes to supplement the fire fund to lower the county's cost of fighting wildland fires. The people affected by this district will be ranchers and land owners in the eastern portion of the county including the Holiday Park homeowners. None of the county residents came to protest and Pace said unless written protests are received within 30 days the commission will adopt an ordinance raising property taxes in that specified area of the county. Salary Raise Clarification Given In other business, Sheriff Ron Robinson asked the commissioners to clarify their position regarding the cost of living increase county employees received last month. The increase amounts to 7 percent. The commissioners explained a portion of the raise may go directly into helping fund employee . benefits such as health insurance premiums. The remaining portion of the 7 percent may go to the pay checks. The commissioners should make their decision before the final county budget is adopted on December 15. P.G.; Building Trade Proposed The county commissioners are also considering a proposal from a Park City Real ty company - Capson, Morris & McComb - regarding a possible land trade with the county. The property in question is the branch office for the Sheriff's department located at 427 Main Street in Park City. Jt has been brought to the attention of the commission the office has no parking space and no restroom facilities. The commissioners are looking into four proposals presented by ' the reality company. 1. Restore the existing building at an estimated cost of $8,000. 2. Trade the value of the property for another building site -elsewhere in Park City. - 3. Trade the current equity of the Sheriffs office building and property for a lease in another building. 4. Sell the property at 427 Main Street. County clerk Reed Pace said no decision was made this week as the commissioners want to see the physical locations of the properties mentioned by the real ty company. More than just office space for the Sheriff's department the commissioners are also considering the same building be used for the Prevention Center and County Health Dept. Taxes Going Up for Roads The commissioners announced that they will adopt an ordinance to raise property taxes for road maintenance and snow removal in service area number 6 which will affect the following housing developments: the Jeremy Ranch area. Silver Springs, Jeremy Woods Condos, Red Pine Chalets, Red Pine Townhouses,. Silver Meado ws Townhouses and the PinebrdOk area. |
