Show zone, annexation hearings set An April 6 date was set last week by the city council for public hearings on a requested zone change and annexation request. The annexation request involves the 45 acre site proposed for the 175 unit Treasure Hills subdivision, which was turned down in a similar attempt to be annexed last summer. The request received a positive recommendation from the planning commission two weeks ago. Although the developers told the commission they have obtained additional water rights for their project since their last attempt at annexation, City Manager Wayne Matthews told the council hursday he wouldn't recommend annexation until water is actually obtained. Providing adequate water was the main stumbling block in the earlier attempt. The zone change being sought is for a 1.7 acre piece of land, including the site of the Mt. Air Cafe and Park City Car Wash, at the junction of highways 224 and 248. Owners George Polychronis and Cliff Read are asking a change from residential to commercial zoning to accomodate plans for a self-serve gas station and professional office building. The zone change received a positive recommendatin from the planning commission in a split decision, but commission chairman Burnis Watts told the council he was concerned about the possibility of congestion at the busy intersection and feared a spread of strip commercial zoning. "We need to consider what we want for Park City," said Watts. "It would be difficult to deny commercial zoning for one person and give it to another." |
