Throughout Through-out the year, we're going to try to get outside to observe how the environment changes through the year." The children enjoyed the trip and their teacher noted "lots were able to observe what was going on around them instead of just playing and never seeing what's around them." She said, 'Kindergarten is a time when the children do a lot of concrete things. They play more games and are active. On the nature walk they were actually involved in-volved in discovering things for themselves and not just hearing about them." The first and second graders grad-ers werepickingchokecher-ries werepickingchokecher-ries outside Marsac last week. The classes smashed up the berries one day and made them into jam in the lunchroom the next. First graders ate their jam at a special class breakfast break-fast Thursday. Second graders grad-ers took a bus trip up Deer Valley during which they learned about leaves, flowers flow-ers and animals in the fall. Children Study Atinmi Marsac Elementary primary pri-mary grades are gettingfirst hand experience with the changes of Autumn through their Environmental Studies program. Ki ndergarten teacher Sheryl Pickett took her afternoon class on a nature walk up Deer Valley on September Sep-tember 22 to observe changes chang-es in leaf color, and to see how flowers and weeds are changing before winter. The children collected flowers and weeds and arranged ar-ranged them between two sheets of wax paper which their teacher ironed for them. Arithmetic was also included in the jaunt when Mrs. Pickett assigned them to collect certain numbers of leaves. |
