E 1 Job's Daughters busily cleared Glenwood Cemetery of under- growth last Saturday. Glenwood Cemetery Cleared Although Glenwood Cemetery Ceme-tery is the burial ground for some of Park City's earliest residents, it has become difficult dif-ficult to discover amid tangled undergrowth and weeds. Tombstones have fallen over, and the site is difficult dif-ficult to walk through. But, thanks to the efforts of Job's Daughters Bethel 16 from Midville, Utah, the cemetery is being cleared and cleaned. clean-ed. Last Saturday, 12 Job's Daughters spent the day with pruners, choppers, and gloved glov-ed hands clearing around graves, but leaving alnnethe natural setting.Twocity employees em-ployees were procured by Clem Hansen to come with the City's large truck and loader in order to haul trash to the City dump. Hansen andDuncanSilver, Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 734 in Park City, helped direct dir-ect the girls' efforts. The Bethel plans to return this fall or next spring to complete com-plete the clean-up because, in the words of one Daughter, Daugh-ter, "we've barely made a dent in the mess today." The clean-up was chosen as one of three Bicentennial Bicenten-nial projects which Bethel 16 will complete. These projects, pro-jects, according to directives direc-tives from theirGrand Bethel, Beth-el, are supposed to "serve the community and help restore re-store historical sites." Liz Barlow, Honored Queen of the Bethel explained explain-ed that her family used to stay in condominiums above the graveyard. Noticing the disrepair into which the history-loaded site had fallen, she decided its clean-up would make a good Bicentennial project. Laurie Phelps, chairman of the Bethels' Bicentennial Committee, Com-mittee, contacted Mayor Price who directed her to the Elks, nominally responsible for the private cemetery. The proposed .clean-up was enthusiastically approved. Glenwood Cemetery is primarily a burial ground for members of Park City fraternal frat-ernal organizations including includ-ing Masons, Oddfellows, Eastern Star and Elks. It is owned by purchasers of plots and is located between Crescent Cres-cent Ridge and Three Kings Condominiums. |
