Show Wrestlers Take Honors At Tournament I "' ' - ' J i ' V " .. . ,s ... .. . j . j , A ... . I j 1 1 The Park City High School wrestling team began the season with an impressive first place finish at a tournament in Altamont Friday night, and earlier, on Wednesday losing a close dual match with Duchesne on their home turf. Cory Provost was named Outstanding Wrestler at the four team tournament in Altamont which included Gunnison, Duchesne, Duch-esne, Altamont and Park City. Park City finished with 92 points; Gunnison 85 'A points; Duchesne, 81 points; and Altamont, 75 points. Even though this year's team does not have the solid balance in all wtight categories as last year, strong individual performances put the Miners on top at Altamont. First place finishers included Randy Schaefer (105), Doug Dean (126), Cory Provost (145), Cliff Martinez (155), and Steve Mann (185). 98 pound wrestler, Marty Stagg, came in third place, Bob Pace, 1 19 pound class, finished in fourth place, Ted Smith, also finished in fourth place in the 138 pound class, Garth Ford came in second place in the 167 pound category, and John Newland scored enough points in the Heavyweight division to finish in third place at the tournament. The Miners soundly beat Duchesne in the tournament, but earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Wednes-day, the Duchesne squad managed manag-ed to beat Park City by a slim two point margin during a dual meet in the gym at the high school. The final score was 36 to 34. Cory Provost, Cliff Martinez, Garth Ford, and Steve Mann pinned their opponents, picking up 24 points. Doug Dean won a major decision and received four more points. Park City will host Grantsville in a dual meet today at 3:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at the high school. And Coach Wayne Carlson Carl-son said, "I predict a win." |
