Show Marsac Notes animals, food of animals and how animals are formed; some animals ani-mals have fur while others have tough skin. Creative writing is occuring in second grade classrooms. They too are working on the Christmas program. In art, second graders are making three dimensional pictures pictur-es and Christmas ornaments. After Thanksgiving folders went home in Mrs. Salomon's first grade room. They have learned about sound and musical instruments. The class learned that instruments live in one of four families. They can identify the instruments in the orchestra. Students made notes by filling bottles with different water levels. They use rhythm instru ments to accompany their singing now. First graders in Patti Davis' and Karen Bogue's classes finished their unit on Utah rocks and have taken their rock booklets home. They are learning about Christmas Christ-mas customs around the woild. On December 5, St. Nicholas Day, St. Nicholas arrives in Holland from Spain. First graders set out their shoes and found crystal candies and windmill cookies because they had been so good. In Ireland travelers are given raisin bread. The English make taffy. As the students study each custom, they participate in observing these customs. The boys and girls are finding out that Americans observe customs from many different countries. The kindergarten classes are making ornaments for the tree. They too, are studying the Christmas traditions of other lands. They have had a unit concerning concern-ing the feelings of others. Students in Mrs. Stark's classes are recognizing the beginning sounds of words and recognizing the main idea of a story. In math they are matching and tallying numbers. Students are excited about the coming holiday and the excitement excite-ment and enthusiasm can be felt in the classrooms and halh- 'vs of Marsac. The next few weens will be filled w'th activities. were interspersed with scenes from Tom Sawyer. Third graders are learning about the origin of New York City in Social Studies. In a few weeks they will be getting into puppetry in the area of reading. Second graders are studying about Christmas customs around the world. They have learned about Italy and will learn about other countries. In Science second graders have completed a unit on animals. They studied the environment of By Karen Bogne The third and fourth grades are busily engaged in working on their Christmas play, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Three parents, Sally Bolton, Mary Ely, and Nancy McComb are helping with the production. Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Bailey are in charge of the music. Mr. Bud Jensen, Mr. Kim Jensen, and Dr. Falls are in charge of scenery and lighting. The cast has been chosen and everyone in school is eagerly waiting to see the production.
