Show Plan for Ski Unification Detailed for Chamber of Commerce Diners Travel Council was very enthusiastic en-thusiastic about prospects for the upcoming season. He said records indicate that the winter ski season is expected to outrank out-rank the summer tourist season in dollars spent in Utah; that his office is spending important time and money to bring more people from all over the world to the Greatest Snow on Earth, and that he and his crew are proud of the united front being offered by all the complexes in the area. A movie on ski resorts in the area completed the evening's program. Exactly 195 persons attended the Park City Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Kick-Off dinner at the C'Est Bon Monday evening, enjoyed en-joyed a roast beef dinner and heard plans for the coming ski season. Bob Dean, C. of C. president, was in charge of the program. Complete co-operation of all the ski areas in the Wasatch Mountains, designed to bring more outside families to Utah, was the theme of the speaking program. It was pointed out that Colorado has withdrawn all its state funds for ski promotion, pro-motion, to be used in upcoming Olympic arrangements, and the opportunity is great to lure away from the sister state thousands of ski-fun-seekers. Don Redmon told of plans and hopes for the upcoming season at Ski Park City West, and was the first of several to laughlingly comment upon the fact that heavy snow, so much in demand later, was only a detriment de-triment in October. Alf Engen, Mr. Ski of Utah, the true pioneer of the sport in the Intermountain West and himself a skier of renown, was introduced. He has been head man at Alta for many years. Lee Bronson of Alta promised complete co-operation of his community in the All-Utah drive. Ted J o h n s o n, of Snowbird, carried the theme further in a talk punctuated with laughter. Roger Haran, of the Park City Resort, kept the big crowd in stitches as he told of frantic efforts to defeat the weather in completing a great many improvements im-provements and additions to the huge complex. New runs, an almost al-most all-new golf course, condominiums con-dominiums and a village and other new buildings at the center are rapidly nearing completion, he said. Bea Kummer, costumed for her role as unofficial tour guide for Park City, told charmingly of some of her experiences. Candidates for the City Council were introduced. Lee Jorgensen of the Utah |
