"Just for Fun in 71" Is Theme of State Fair Opening Sept. 9 Mr. Hugh C.Bringhurst, Director Dir-ector Division of Expositions, Utah State Fair and Willis Whit-back, Whit-back, Board Chairman announced an-nounced today that theState Fair will get under way to the theme of 'JUST FOR FUN IN 71" when "Miss Utah State Fair", Patricia Eliason officially cuts the ribbon -on Sept. 9 at 5:00 p.m. The Fair will begin it's Home Arts, Fine Arts, Youth exhibits, there will be over 4,200 exhibitors with over i 12,500 exhibits. ... It will indeed be 'Just For j Fun in '71" with something for everything. Gates open 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Adults -$1.50, children (6 through 12) -50?. Children 5 and under-free. under-free. It is anticipated that 300,000 Utahns will make at least one visit to the Utah State Fair this year. 11 day run with the annual Queen Contest Sept. 9, 8:30 p.m. and run through Sept. 19th. The entertainment will range from contemporary and country western to rock and wild animal shows, with $75,000 worth of talent all-told, featuring such top stars as Charley Pride, Jody Miller, Sonny James, Fer-lin Fer-lin Husky, Lynn Anderson and Sandi and Sally. Robert Peterson, Broadway star will be the guest Master of Ceremonies for the "Miss Utah State Fair Contest" and will entertain fair goers' throughout the evening. Charley Pride appears at the fair Sept. 10 and 11 for the third straight year. Ferlin Husky and Jody Miller will entertain Sept. 14 & 15. Lynn Anderson, television tele-vision star and Sonny James, another country-western singer will be featured Sept. 16 & 17th. In conjunction, "HOLIDAY ON ICE" (admission will include a stub for fair admission) will return re-turn this year at the Salt Palace. Livestock judging and exhibits ex-hibits will likely make their mark as usual, and returning this year after an absence in 1970 will be a special junior livestock sale for blue ribbon steers, hogs and lambs of 4-H and FFA exhibitors, co-sponsored by the Utah Junior Hereford Here-ford Association. The Fair's annual spectacular spectac-ular all-breed horse show will get underway on Sept. 11, but the bulk of the horse show will be from Sept. 14-18. Included on the agenda is the guest appearance on Sept. 14, 9:00 p.m., grandstand of the latest space heros of the Apollo 15 Flight to the Moon, Astronauts James Benson Irwin, Ir-win, David R. Scott and Alfred M. Worden. Other daily attractions: Bobby Cohn's West Coast Carnival, Carn-ival, sky divers, a helicopter trapeze act, Jonny Rivers diving div-ing mule, The Chieftones, the hit of the Days of '47 Rodeo, Francisco Zamora, Trick Roper.
