Show Bits & Pieces By Eleanor Bennett IT'S PRETTY SPECIAL working for a boss who is a many time winner! I'm speaking, speak-ing, of course, of Mac's column The Ants Eye View-again first place in Utah in July judging by the Department of Journalism at Utah State University. Congrats, Boss! For one, I don't knowthehis-tory knowthehis-tory 'of The Ants and wonder how long it's been running and how the name came about. OF COURSE many of Mac's columns are written looking at life from the ground floor but I've read some of his stories that read like he was way up on a mountain top looking over life. The one ontheChatauqua may have been the winner this time but I think the funniest thing I EVER read was his column in the April 1 issue of the Record about How does an Indian pronounce pro-nounce "Ugh"? and How Does a Fly light on the ceiling? On the face of it this sounds frivolous but it certainly would do us all good if we could do . what Mac did in that column-combine column-combine the serious with the lighthearted. Sure there are a lot of problems in this world and we SHOULD be concerned. But it seems to me there are enough things for us to do in our own little bailiwicks without becoming be-coming obsessed by world problems. prob-lems. IT'S GOOD and rightly so, to be informed about what's going on do let's take time to find out about unemployment and the situation in northern Ireland and the latest in the Far East. And then, let's have a look around our own area what can we do to make it better? ' It makes me furious to have some folks walk around, heads down and looking glum, sort of sour on the whole world and never see the beauty that is around them day in and day out. True, the mountains and the sky are there every day but look up at them TODAY!' HAVE YOU NOTICED all the smiling faces in Park City? Very few people on Main Street pass me by without a smile, a wave or "hello". I like that kind of a town. You don't have to know somebodys name or where he's from or where he's headed in order to smile or say 'hi"! Maybe that's a good sample of something we can do let's make Park City famous as the 'Friendly town in the mountains". |
