The hints ol Herodotus that the ancient Egyptians and the Abysslans were somehow connected con-nected has been corroborated , by botany. According to Investigations of the well-known Russian botanist, K. A. Klaxcnburg, a striking likeness Is now established between the .old Egyptian emmer found In the sarcophagus sarco-phagus of the priests of the twelfth dynasty and the Abyssinian samples collected by the Vavllov expedition In 1927. These Egyptian specimens differ dif-fer strongly from other forms of emmer em-mer and especially from the Persian form In which some scientists found grain. From Abyssinia the emincr Is believed be-lieved to have spread to Arabia, India In-dia and Egypt. In Persia tonus arose willed are allied to the Abyssinian ones. In Serbia other forms differentiated differen-tiated which approach the Abyssinian types. The Russian emmer originated from these Serbian forms. . |
