P Stewart In remembrance remembrance re re- of her birth birth- the homo home In which she was member of her immediate family and Is s living in part of the home in which she was born on Feb 17 1871 It is to- to on 01 the corner of Parish and Main Maln in Centerville on the east side ot of the road r t ti I I i I MRS lURS STEW STEWART ART is the daughter of J Joel el Parrish and Elizabeth Bratten A picture taken in September of 1934 shows all 15 living children of Joel Parrish and his wives Elizabeth Bratten and Emma Ford Emma had seven chil children chill dren and Elizabeth Ellzabeth eight J Jen- Jen en flues nies oldest brother was Samuel Sam Sam- uel then Mary u m Charles Parley Jennie Rilla and Stanley Parrish At the age ot of 17 she attended attend attend- ed the University of Utah and lived with her sister in Salt Lake Having a desire to teach she was finally located with her first opportunity at Mountain Green in Morgan County where she taught for six years sHE RETURNED to Centerville Cent Cen- terville first teaching in a ant lit tie school where the Centerville Center Center- ville 2nd ward was built bulIt and then in the amusement hall hail hallat at the west of the Centerville Is j 3rd and wards wards' prop prop- erty She taught the first and second grades with David Smith In 1906 she married Isaac Stewart an attorney and they moved to Richfield fox fot one year then to Rexburg Ida where Isaac was a partner partner part part- ner to Judge flicks Ricks They lived there for tor approximately five years when her husband away Mrs Parrish then returned to Centerville where she he taught school again until her retirement retire retire- ment 35 years later Along with being a a school school schoolteacher teacher leacher of many hundreds of children of three generations she served in the Sunday school and MIA in her ward She has also been very active in the Daughters of the Plo Plo- and spent many years years in genealogical work in the lie li- MANY l parents and former students thank her publicly for helping them In directing their lives in the right channels than chan nets nels during the time she taught them One of the nicest tributes I was paid by her sister in and very close friend who says Jennie is so unselfish the must unselfish person I know and a wonderful person to get along with She never complains and is so Uve tive of everything that is done for her She has always loved children dren and everywhere we wego wego go there is someone who remembers reo re- members her as their teach teach- er mes |
