W fut's fuls first art gallery will be Friday Nov 18 from 7 to 10 pm p.m. THE EXHIBIT will run until Dec 10 with viewing hours Tuesday and Thursday it 11 a. a am m. m to 3 pm p.m. Saturday 7 3 pm p.m. and Tuesday evenings 7 10 pm p.m. I For the first exhibit the gallery gallery gal gal- lery director selected well well- mown Salt Lake City artists Gerald Purdy and his wife Martha Estus to show their etchings and BOTH HAVE exhibited locally locally local local- ly nationally and internationally ally Including the University of Illinois Bucknell University Library of Congress European Travelling Exhibit Utah State University Salt Lake Art Center Center Cen- Cen ter Northwest a k e r s Exhibition Brooklyn Museum Print Exhibition and Jackson Hole Summer Festival Mr tr Pur Purdy y is currently having a one than exhibit of his paintings in Salt Lake City Both were graduated from the University of Illinois In 1959 with masters of fine arts degrees degrees de- de grees in printmaking SINCE THEN Mr Purdy has taught art at the University of Wisconsin University of Illinois Illinois Illi- Illi nois Ringling School of Art Sarasota Fla and is presently assistant professor of art at the University of Utah Etching is a process in which acid is used to etch a drawing on ona a copper plate after which paper paper pa- pa per is applied to the plate for forthe forthe the resulting print THIS IS of course an oversimplification oversimplification over over- simplification of the tha process I which takes place on a large printing press in the Purdys' Purdys basement Martha won the Tiffany fany Scholarship for printmaking ing which enabled her to purchase purchase pur- pur chase the press The opening ot of the gallery galler is isan isan an especially exciting time for forthe the hardworking members of II the parent organization Associated Asso- Asso elated Artists Artists' Workshop who I have worked over a year THEIR PURPOSE to bring every type of art to Davis Count County Coun- Coun t ty residents for viewing buyIng buying buy buy- Ing or renting and to provide competent instruction In all phases ot of art The association has already sponsored two highly high high- ly successful open art exhibits in Layton and Bountiful during I I Ithe the summer In between the big n a am m e shows at the gallery the members members mem- mem bers will display their works on ona a sales rental basis Exhibits are scheduled d to change approximately approximately every month The Th public is most welcome and sp special cial lecture tours for groups can be arranged by c calling president Kaye Arnold |
