Show MUTILATED BODY OF MAN FOUND AT LITTLE MOUNTAIN revolting murder Is brought to light by discovery of corpse of enoch D jenkins buried under pile of stones with head crushed in and pockets rifled A moat revolting murder was brought ti light last night when justice of the peace F F burrow of warren brought abo body of enoch D jenkens to ogden that had been found buried beneath a pile of stones at the south end of little mountain i the facts so far brought out cup ports the theory that the man was killed by his companion for the purpose of commit Ung robbery the story in connection with the discover was told to a of tins paper by mr burrow shortly after his arrival in the city with the dead mans body last evening who stated that an italian whose name is not known was hunting on little mountain on saturday aad when near the south end of the mountain just south of the cutoff cut off railroad tracks near what is known as the big rock cut discovered a pile of atone from which the feet or a roan protruded the hunter returned to warren at once and notified mr burrow of the discovery and on sunday after bum moning a coroners jury mr burrow together with the members of the jury drove to the place designated and found the body beneath about tour or five hundred pounds of rock which yas evidently placed upon the body to con ceal the murder the rocks were removed and ahe body was found lying upon its face the lack of tha head as crushed to a evidently from being pounded with a large stone near the place where the body was found was a pile of pubes and the remains of what had been a firc while beneath the body was a razor and a box containing shaving boap which showed that the murdered anan had been shaving himself waca the foul crime was committed in tact the right side of the face had been shaven clean while the left side con bained a four or alvo days growth of beard the coroners jury which was composed ol 01 joseph white frank east and james bailey after an examination of the body rendered a verdict stating that alie man had come to his death evidently from belna stoned by persons unknown with felonious and murderous intent at the time of the discovery the appearance pe arance 0 the body would indicate that the man had been dead about three of four beeks although tho body was not in a bad state of preservation aside from the back of the head being mashed in there were also several lacerations of the forehead which were probably inflicted by the body falling upon some stones when the crime was committed the right ear was almost cut from the head and the left ear was entirely off possibly chewed off by wild animals the left hand was chewed at the wrist and the fleshy part of the hand was chewed in such a way as to indicate the work of animals tho pockets of the dead mans trousers were turned inside out when the body was found showing that lob bery bad been committed although there was one dollar aad a brilling Bh illing found in a tobacco pouch in the pockets when the clothes were searched aside from this there was a purse containing two portions of gold teeth while in the coat was found citizenship papers in the name of enoch D jencina made out at clear greek colorado in 1900 a dental receipt tor 90 for teeth issued march eth 1903 by dr G L stone room ernest cranner building and curtis streets denver two poll tax receipts isred li the same name from sacramento Sacra county california june th aej a southern pacific railroad envelope addressed to mr E jenkins folsom california 1 near the spot where the body was found was a pair of discarded felt shoes that had the tops cut oft presumably to be used as overshoes and about eight feet away was found a pair of striped ra a pocket containing a puzzle glass a duplicate of which vas found in the vest pocket of e dead man which strengthens the belief that the murdered man bad a companion inasmuch as ho would hardly have had to puzzles of the same kind on his person the overalls and tioU bers on the body had been opened in front which was probably necessary after the crime had been committed in order to get access to the trouser pockets and there were ano vests upon the victim the murdered man was apparently thirty five or lorty years of age alve feet ten inches in height well built wearing a thin dark mustache had dark hair bluish gray eyes was what would be considered well dressed in a dark checkered suit blue overalls and wore a black cap the clothes were of good material and the man wore a fairly good pair of shoes after mr burrow had notified the sheriffs office of the affair the body was taken to the larkin undertaking parlors and telegrams were dispatched to the different parties whose names were attached to the papers found on the corpse in the hope of discovering the relatives of the murdered man and possibly getting some clue to the perpetrators petra tors who committed ano murder mr burrow stated that no one throughout the section of the country where the body had been found could remember having seen anyone of the description given and alie spot the body vas concealed Is frequented but seldom and the body been completely covered with the stones it Is hardly likely that the arme would have ever been discovered |
