districts on january 30 at the regular meeting of the board assessor alx submitted the names of phil L orth huntsville W R mcfarland garland C H chandler randall robert A jones M D harris harrisville C purdy ogden city for deputy assessors and miss agnes R maguyre Magu lre office clerk action on these appointments was deferred until today when the board confirmed the appointments as submitted and took lip ane question of compensation it was finally decided that the compensation tor all deputies working in the county districts should be per day and the three deputies working in ogden city should receive per day while the three office clerks salary will be per day A petition w as presented to the board signed by john H jorgenson and 33 others from huntsville recommending the appointment of george A burrows for deputy assessor which was in effect denied by the confirmation of the appointment of phil L orth for that position commissioner stanford reported that in company with commissioner madain and civil engineer A F parker he had visited and inspected the steel bridge over the weber river north of the sugar factory and that air darher had submitted a written report upon the matter which was thereupon read as follows to the hon board of county commissioners of weber county utah gentlemen in the matter of an inspection spec tion of the steel bridge across the weber river north of the sugar factory which was made on february 4 1905 by commissioners stanford and abad sou and myself I 1 have the honor to report as follows the object of the inspection was to determine the feasibility of setting the bridge lower than it is at percent per sent this is very deel rable as the bridge as it now stands is at least five feet too high the bridge can be lowered the steel tubular piers being cut off or rather the top sections removed at the joints ana tha bridge reset on the shortened piers I 1 do act think this can be none for less than on account of the near approach of high water and the time it will take to obtain bids and perfect arrangements range ments I 1 jo not think it wise to attempt any operations until after high water is over further I 1 think the tubular piers should thea at lowest water be carefully inspected forat may be that changes or repairs may be found to be necessary therein as the south piers are now directly in the main current of the river and the gravel la washing out badly I 1 would therefore respectfully recommend that as soon as high water Is over the bridge and piers be again carefully inspected and then it thought advisable advertise for bids on the proposition ot a specification calling tor each bidder to submit bis own plan and device for lowering the bridge and the price respectfully submitted A F PARKER C E commissioner stanford stated that mr parkers report embodied the sen of the committee upon the matter the report was thereupon accepted and approved and the recommendations ions therein contained were investigate the advisability of placing separate electric light meters in each of tho offices in the county court house in order to ascertain in what part of the building an five amount of light waa
