| Show ROOSEVELT conservative lack of in ilia not a lions tall twister there Is a tons of sincere admiration in the comment made by the foreign papers on abo presidents message when it Is remembered that there is a large portion of our people who felt a year or two ago anat roosevelt lacked conservatism and that he would be likely to precipitate trouble with other nations if he became president and when the further fact is recalled that the foreign papers have been inclined to scold him sharply because they entertained the opinion concerning him it Is interesting to find that his message draws forth such comment abroad it that president roosevelt Is as conservative as could be expected of a vigorous executive that has been known to all who have followed his career closely but it Is gratifying to them to this demon of the correctness of the opinion they have entertained it makes no difference to americans what foreigners think of a message excepting as their views may furnish an illustration of the wisdom of the utterances of the particular president who has written the message it occasion should arise president roosevelt would send a message to congress that would cause foreigners to squirm of that every one Is satisfied but he Is not one to indulge in the pastime of wrenching the lions tall or teasing the german eagle lie Is altogether conservative serva tive there Is no trace of the pugnacious disposition by which so many people have believed him to be governed and there will be nothing done by him to causelessly offend any power with which we arc on friendly terms the foreigners believed ho would offend them at the first opportunity by indulging in what they term jingoism and their frank admission of the fact that als message la altogether conservative Is ample proof that be would not pursue a policy that would lead us into foreign difficulties without full and sufficient cause idaho statesman |
