Show substantial improvement PERMANENT BRIDGE constructed BY THE PRESENT administration costs less money than a structure which was unsafe and constructed under former administration As an instance of the improvement i being made by the present tion and their value can be noticed the bridge which is being competed ta span mill creek on street ahe bridge is not costly and to some may not be deemed an important improvement but the fact remains that it is a sample of permanent and econos ficai improvements not seen under recent administrations mill creek was formerly spanned by a wooden structure which was in afa and ill constructed and cost som over it sagged in the m ddll nd filially the residents who had occasion to use it petitioned the present council for a new bridge and the petition was granted new and fine approaches were mad to the new structure and stone abutments built in place of jiing piles which in the former s ruc ure had been found to have rotted in a short time the new bridge is twenty one feet long and doubled blanked planked nd is a kind of suspension bridge bein supported by iron girders and iron braces from each end by beani of bolts the bridge can be raised or lowered the entire structure cost 90 aid will last for twenty years the work was done under the direct supervision of mr balch the street supervisor according to the suggestion of the city this is but one instance of econome cal substantial and needed improvements that are being made under the present administration |
