Show CITY SOLONS SESSION the head of mr Fers city hall drops into the basket W L porter Is the new man committee reports the council will let the thirtieth street matter rest it was 8 last evening when president spencer called the city council to order all councilmen being present except farrell and shinn together with recorder anderson and city attorney whipple the of the previous meeting were read and approved and the following business taken up TUB COMMITTEE ON CLAIMS reported a number of claims with the recommendation that they be pid adopted and warrants ordered drawn for the various amounts THE COMMITTEE ON LAWS and the committee on licenses were granted a weeks further time THE COMMITTEE ON FIRE department reported recommending the discharge of fred from the central and blundy SL undy from the bench fire sta tion they also recommended that only one regular man be kept at the bench station and the other two men transferred to the central station and that an extra man be employed to sleep at ahn bench station the report was adopted on motion of watson a warrant was ordered drawn in favor ofa of A levy lor salary as assistant fire chief which was held back last week THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC BUILDINGS and grounds reported recommending that the present help at the city hall be discharged and that W L porter be employed as janitor at a salary of 14 per week abia led to considerable discussion on the motion to adopt the report adams W FJ moved that the report lay on the table for one week lost on a tie vote gibson explained that tho recommendation was made for economic reasons and for the betterment ot the janitor service he explained that there were many reasons why the change should be made which be did not care to make public at the present dark opposed any change because he bad heard no complaint ot the present janitor said no charges would be made against the present incumbent by mr gibson because sir gibson did not want to bairt any one Pinco ciT favored the motion to adopt the report and make the change on cco comic reasons the report was then adopted by a party vote CITY ATTORNEY reported that the case of job warner vs city bad been taken from judge Tern escourt to judge bishops court and that the cost of transfer was payment of lie recommended he also again reported that judge bishop had decided the case in favor of alie city and biad assessed tho costs of the cage to warner the recommendation ommen dation was adopted ho also reported on the resolution requiring him to bring suit to recover the amount alleged to be due the city by the late dog tax collector recommending that no action be taken first because no legal bond biad been filed by the collector second that the bond filed had not been filed until december 11 1893 and that any alleged shortage doubtless took place before the filing of tle bond and third that the burden ot lay upon the city to prove how many of alie tags had actually been disposed of it would probably not bo profitable for the cita to undertake the suit adopted he also reported that alie award in the THIRTIETH STREET arbitration biad been set aside and that the way is now open for a new arbitration to be made he also presented the bill of court reporter gatrell of which lie recommended be paid adopted alie council then decided to lot the matter rest for the present THE BOND OF DOG TAX COLLECTOR tout for was presented and referred to the finance committee THE SANITARY INSPECTOR recommended eliat a city scavenger be I 1 employed and that a scavenger license be levied upon city merchants referred to the street committee was read from a number of property owners asking that thirtieth street be opened referred to the committee on streets A number of personal petitions were read and referred to the appropriate committees councilman dark presented a resolution requiring the salt lake and ogden gas electric light corpany con pany to place its poles in the streeta according to alie city ordinances referred to the street committee the council then adjourned for one week |
