Show LAKES WITHIN THE CITY. The suggestions on water storage, offered by Engineer Joseph A. West, are worthy of being kept before the farmers of this valley in an effort to put them into effect. Mr. West, after pointing out the drawbacks to the larger storage plans which call for extensive works at some distance, advocates the building of reservoirs at the mouth of Ogden canyon, just west of the Sanitarium, and on the Weber river above and below the Bamberger bridge. A survey would be necessary to give approximate figures on the amount of water that could be stored, but the general contour of the sites seems favorable to the impounding of a large volume of water. There are two benefits to be derived from these proposed reservoirs. reser-voirs. One is the storage of water, for irrigation purposes in the dry season; the second is the forming of artificial lakes which might be made the center attractions of parks to be created by the city as pleasure grounds for young and old, where a rich foliage and beau-ful beau-ful walks and drives might be created, and the lakes made fishing, boating and swimming resorts. This city could be made the most delightful spot in all the intermountain, if half the natural charms were utilized in some such manner as suggested in this plan to turn our streams into beautiful lakes. |
