Show I FLIES IN FRONT OF WHITE HOUSE '-rtiSTfington. Oct. 14. Aiator White made a remarkable flight from Ren-pings' Ren-pings' aviation field today to Was4 ington. Exeeufhe avenue, where White landed, Is a narrow street, and his aeroplane had a space of only ten feet on either side between the lences of the White House offices and the stati-, war and navy building. Awaiting him on the department steps were the chief officers of both army and navy. The admiral of the navy, George Dewey, hero of many battles, was one of the first to grasp his hand and offer congratulations. The nviator approached the Washington Wash-ington monument In his flight, then banged his course to circle the White House and war department. In order to make a good landing In the narrow nar-row street. After lunch with the army and navy officers, Mr. White ascended from tho narrow street and sailed away toward the Washington monumeDt and back to Ronnings. The ascent was even a more difficult feat than tho one Mr. White performed In alighting on his arrival. Starting at tho Pennsylvania avenue end of the thoroughfare, the aeroplane ran a hundred feet before leaving the pavement. Then !t rse gradually and cleared the trees at the other end of the street und sailed away. Th entire trip was made without a mishap. In exhibition flights at Benning this afternoon' the aeroplane was damaged dam-aged in two minor accidents, but White was not Injured. |
