Show RECALLS A GIRL'S DISAPPEARANCE Newport, Ore., July 27. The verdict ver-dict of a coroner's Jury that the victim vic-tim of the Yacpilna Bay sack mystery came to her death several years ago, and even the opinion of Coroner Cater Ca-ter that the woman wa3 between 13 and 21 years of ape. Is believed to have been Influenced to a more or less extent by memory of the never-explained never-explained disappearance of Sophia Nols on October lf. 1901. This Is Ihe story of Sophia Nois: Tho girl in company with her sister and brotber-ln law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ed-ward Allowa, formerly of Portland, came to Newport for an outing, from a homestead which they had located on the Sileslan reservation. While here the girl appeared to harbor a secret sorrow and she told the proprietor pro-prietor of the hotel that she would never return to the farm. The sorrow is said to have been occasioned by a love affair. On October 1', according to records, rec-ords, Miss Nols dropped out of sight as suddenly and completely as if the earth had swallowed her A search of the bay was made, the government life-saving crew dragging It In vain, and the wooda and brush in this vi clnlty were scoured, but not the slightest trace of the girl was found. The father of Mjss Nols Is said to be on the way to Newport to view tho remains. Tho oldest Inhabitant haa no recollection of any disappearance disappear-ance other than that of Sophia Nois. |
