Mr. Lowo states that the fellow entered en-tered his place of business between 4 and 5 o'clock and asked for matches. Ho Immediately started a contro versy with two customers at the table and Lowe told him he would have to get out. This the fellow did reluctantly, reluct-antly, at the time telling Lowe that he would return with a gun and kill I him. The coffee main paid no particular partic-ular attention to what the man said, but his recollection of the threat was sharpened when the negro returned with revolver In hand. When the fellow fel-low camo In the Becond time there, were two other negroes In the house and they interceded In Lowe's behalf, telling the bad man that there was no reason why the coffee house man should be killed at that time. Mr. Lowe, though, placed himself In a position po-sition where he could not easily be shot while the negro with the gnn was there, and, as soon as an opportunity oppor-tunity presented Itself, he advised the police station. Officer Herrlck was dispatched to the. scene of the disturbance, dis-turbance, and finally located the negro ne-gro in his room on lower Twenty-fifth street. I When arrested the negro had no I gun with him, but he had about $25 in cash in his pockets. He was taken i to the station, whf re he is now being held for investigation, Mr. Lowe positively Identifies the j man as the one who flourished a gun . at his coffee house, and Mr. Kajl Is . reasonably certain that he Is the samo I negro that paid him a visit. ! The man gives his name as Fred i Clay, but he stoutly denies any knowledge knowl-edge of the crimes charged against him. The oflicers are quite certain, though, that Clay is the man wanted for the Kajl robbery and the disturbance disturb-ance created fit the Lowe house. |
