Show TRAGEDY IN A NEW YORK. STATION New York, July 27. Sarriflcln Us life by his gallantry in picking up a handkerchief dropped on the tracks by a child, an unidentified subway sub-way employe was mangled to death under a train at the 135th street station sta-tion last night. The accident was vltnessfd by several huudred persons standing on the platform and caused much excitement. A woman accompanied by two small children stood on the southbound platform awaiting a train when one of the children dropped a handker cLIef upon the track. The woman sought to recover the handkerchief v. 1th the aid of a parasol, but had given up the task when a trackwalker ppproaehed, p'eked up the Handkerchief Handker-chief and handed It to the woman. Before he could thank the man, she saw a train round a curve clo&e by and sweep Into the station. She cried to the man to save himself. He sprang away from the on rushing train, hut stumbled over the thhd rail and fell headlong beneath the wheels. |
