Kllpatrick Bros. & Collins and Flick & Johnson were the big men in the west. Backed by ample capital, it was an easy matter to buy steam shovels, dummy engines, en-gines, light tsteel track and hundreds of dump cars with which to go ai'ter the big business. The first large con- tract was the Utah & Pacific extending extend-ing from Milford to Hvada, and then me Leamington cut-off, both built when the Short Line controlled the Salt Lake route lines in Utah. Then the Short Line began to employ the firm to do Its extensive grading In 'Idaho, and nearly every branch was graded by it. the first being the St. Anthony line from Idaho Falls, It alto al-to got the larger contract for grading the "Western Pacific. |
